Looking at forbes list of billionaires, you might find it interesting to see that many of the richest people in the world didn’t actually graduate. Here is a list of 5 famous billionaires who dropped out. After dropping out of school at 16, Richard Branson went onto start his own record retailer and music label called Virgin Records. His empire then grew from there and now Virgin is one of the biggest brands in the world owning airlines, mobile networks and 200 more sub-groups. English born Branson has an estimated wealth of $5 billion.

Carl Lindner Jr, Net worth – $2.3 billion

At the age of 14 during the Great Depression, Carl Linder Jr dropped out of school to help his family delivery milk for a living. The family dairy business soon turned into a large chain of convenient stores across the U.S. Linder later took control of American Financial Group, who specialise in insurance and investments.

François Pinault, Net worth – $13.8 billion

François Pinault dropped out of high school in 1947 to work at his father’s lumber mill. Today Pinault is the chairman of retail giants Kering, who own brands such as Gucci, Puma, Samsonite and YSL. Pinault has an estimated net worth of just under $14 billion. His son has since taken over his empire and controls Kering.

Kirk Kerkorian, Net worth – $4 billion

After immigrating with his family over from Armenia, Kirk Kerkorian dropped out of school in the eighth-grade. He learned to fly before eventually saving up enough start his own small air-charter service. Kerkorian eventually sold his airline to Transamerica Corporation for over $100 million. He then went onto make billions in the Las Vegas hotel/casino and U.S. automotive industry.

Amancio Ortega, Net worth – $67 billion

Amancio Ortega, the second richest man in the world, dropped out of school at 14 to work in a shirt shop. Not too long later, Amancio founded Inditex, most notably owning one of the most profitable retailing shops in the world, Zara.
